In order to facilitate the understanding and validation of AI Climate’s results by local authorities and communities, we have developed a three-dimensional (3D) viewer, which you can access here. The viewer allows a more intuitive understanding of the output from AI Climate, by allowing users to locate the results in a more realistic representation of their surroundings. Based on a Cesium platform, the viewer has several features that can be selected by the user, and can also work as a two-dimensional map. The features include a location selector (currently available for Honduras’ two main metropolitan areas, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula); a selector of the background map (an aerial image from Bing Maps or a street map from OpenStreetMap), and toggles for the degree of transparency of the AI Climate results (shown as  “layers” on the viewer) on display. The results that can be displayed in the viewer for each location are:

– Layer 1: presence of socially vulnerable communities

– Layer 2: flooding risk (in San Pedro Sula, for moderate and extreme rainfall)

– Layer 3: landslide risk

– Layer 4: land value differentials across zones in the urbanized area.

We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, through a Data and Society Accelerator Program grant, for the development of the 3D version of the viewer. The viewer was developed in collaboration with Dymaxion Labs.
